The district houses the only water treatment plant in the northern region that supplies potable drinking water to the whole of the regional capital, including Savelugu Municipal, Sagnerigu and Tolon districts. Other tourist attractions in the district include;- Bontanga irrigation dam,

| 1 | Agricultural | Ø Large hectares of arable land suitable for commercial production of cereals, legumes and root and tuber crops. The common crops cultivated in the district include maize, rice, soya beans, groundnuts and other tubers crops such as yam and sweet potato. Commercial Agricultures is one of the main investment potentials in the Kumbung District. Ø Existence of water bodies for dry season vegetable cultivation in commercial quantities. There is great potential for dry season cultivation vegetables such as water-melon, tomato, onion, sugar-cane etc. along the beds of tributaries of White Volta River in the overseas areas of the district where volumes of water bodies remain standing throughout the year. Ø Suitable environment for commercial production and marketing of Livestock and Poultry. Ø The rivers also offer opportunities for fishing and aquaculture development. Ø Shea nut processing and shea butter extraction as well as local soap making and rice processing. This can help to ensure valued-chain addition. Ø The District also is endowed with large valleys for rice cultivation at Bontanga irrigation which provides great potentials for irrigation development. Farmers in the District enjoy the biggest irrigation dam in the region located near Bontanga. The project has the potential area of 800 hectares of which 570 hectares has been developed. There is another 495 hectares of irrigable land that can be an opportunity for investment. Ø There are viable Farmer Based Organizations willing to go into commercial farming in the district, hence, investment in tractor services. Ø Establish rice processing centers in the District. |
